January 9 - Because of the extended holiday our next meeting will be on Monday, January 8th at 10:00 a.m.
Janet Tekell will be with us at the January meeting. Janet was the first
president of our guild. She will share our history and tell us how the
guild got started. After that I will present our agenda for the year. And
introduce the projects we will do. I hope to see all of you there.
February 5 -
HAND QUILTING At our February meeting we will discuss the ins and outs of Hand Quilting. We will go over marking, basting, hoops or frames and quilting. After this we will have a short break for lunch (please bring a sack lunch), and then a hands-on class. If you did not sign up at the January meeting for the class part, please send me a text at 903-654-8974 so I can prepare you a kit. Your kit will contain a 20”x20” little quilt already marked and basted so we can get right to it. You will receive a basting needle, a quilting needle, thread, and a finger cot. You will need to bring a thimble, scissors, and a quilting hoop, no bigger than 14”. If you don’t have a quilting hoop, there will be a few available for you to use during class. Large embroidery hoops will do.
MYSTERY QUILT We will start the Mystery Quilt this month. This is another three color, 6 step quilt. The first month will be the fabric requirements and Step 1. I have chosen red, white, and blue for mine to be used as a Quilt of Valor. If you did not sign up at the January meeting, please send me a text at 903-654- 8974.

- PROGRAM - Strategies for Creating a Successful Scrap Quilt
Marilyn Hardy will present a trunk show of her scrap quilts she has made through the
years. By studying her body of work, she has arrived at the idea that there are three
principles for controlling scraps in our quilt designs. She will share these principles for
controlling scraps (because scraps can get out of control and, by the way, are never
used up!). She invites members of the guild to bring any scrap quilts to add to the
trunk show, and we will analyze which of the three strategies was used to corral the - scraps into a meaningful design. If anyone wants to bring a scrap quilt that they
consider unsuccessful, bring it and we will analyze which principle for controlling
scraps it is missing.
POTLUCK LUNCH
Since we have a guest speaker, let’s do a potluck luncheon.
