January 9 - Because of the extended holiday our next meeting will be on Monday, January 9th at 10:00 a.m.
We are starting the 2023 quilting year off with a guest from the Tyler area, Teri Bamert. She is going to bring some of her scrappy quilts and discuss her method of “scrappiness”.
February 6 -
Silk purse from a Sows Ear!!!
We will continue with our scrap quilt inspirations and play a little fun game with fabrics. Bring a piece of your ugliest fabric. At least a fat quarter, larger if you have it. (I know I said a yard, but it doesn't have to be that big). You will take a piece of many ugly fabrics home and return in March with a masterpiece. Those masterpieces will be pieced together to make a donation quilt.
If you have an easy scrappy quilt at home, bring it to share. I will be bringing a variety of them from the shop to share, as well as the patterns.
So, bring paper and pencil to write down favorites.
March 6 -
Don’t forget to bring your “ugly” blocks!!!!!
This month we will be making a tulip bag. I will have the pattern cut out for you.
You will need:
24”x 16” piece of fabric for the outside,
24” x 16” inside lining,
and a 24” x 16” stabilizer (any thickness/ weight)
1 1/2” bias strips for the binding around the top edge of the bag
2 strips of fabric for your straps (handles) 3” x 21.
You may want to work with a friend and bring one sewing machine to share. If you decide to not make the bag, you can have a sit and sew day or help a friend. Bring a snack or lunch and a drink, if you will be staying. We can have the classroom until 2:00. Debby Powers will be introducing our May program-collage quilt piecing. You won’t want to miss this!!! She will share some things to think about and start collecting, to make a beautiful heart collage.
April 3 - Community Service Projects.
This month’s program is our community service month. Each of our groups will let us know what we will need to help them out. I know Quilts of Valor, Children’s’ quilts, and Hope for Girls will all have something to either take home or work on at the guild.
May 1 -
Don’t forget to start collecting florals from your stash. Debby Powers is teaching Collage Quilt piecing. For this project you will need a piece of background fabric (24 x24), steam-a-seam, and floral fabrics. It would be best if you could get started prior to the May meeting. If you need more information, contact Debby or Jo.
May Program - Jo Jordan 469-644-4945
The May program is one that we have all been waiting for. It will be a new experience for many of us. Debby Powers will lead us through the creative process of collage quilting. Please bring your portable iron and ironing surface. We will have a couple of ironing stations set up, but there might be a wait. Bring your extra floral fabrics to share. If you need more info, call Jo.
June 5 -
First of all, we have a retreat at Greenbriar on June 8-11th.
So far, we have only 7 attending. You can attend 2 nights for $238.50 or all 3 nights for $318.00.
If you would like to attend, contact Rexanne or me asap. There is not a better retreat center in the area!!!
Our June program will be a celebration showing the collage projects that we worked on in May.
Many thanks to Debby Powers for sharing her collage knowledge with us. If you made another one, bring it to show and tell.
We will also have a “garage sale.” If you have things to sell, you can get a table for $10. The $10 goes to the guild and your profits stay with you. If you are a shopper, bring cash! There should be a lot of fun fabric and notions available. We had several boxes of fabric donated to us that we will be selling. It’s good fabric, just older. All profits from this table will go to the guild.
Our July meeting will be a Christmas in July program. Again, bring any Christmas projects to get us motivated to get started for Christmas 2023. We will also have a make and take project. Thanks, Jo
July 10 -
The July program will be a Christmas in July meeting. Bring your Christmas project that will get us inspired to start making Christmas gifts early. I will bring some kits from the Needle Niche for purchase. I will also have a project to make and take. It’s a little cone shaped Styrofoam Christmas tree. I have the cones and some straight pins and fabrics. If you want to bring your own fabric, you will need 1- five-inch square of fabric to cover the base and approx. 30- two and a half inch squares (mine are a variety of greens) and 60 cheap straight pins. Our August meeting will be a presentation of Melissa Henson’s Millefiori quilt. It’s amazing!!! Come have some fun!!!
August 7 -
This month we have a guest speaker coming to share her Millefiori quilt. Melissa Hansen will explain the process. We will have a sample block for each of you to take home and play with!!! Sept. will be a Quilt Show preparation.
Lots of information, lots of opportunities to participate.
